‘Distortion of the Highway’ Diagrams

The making of these diagrams served as an exercise to discover different methods in which a highway could be distorted— resulting in new interactions with its surroundings and communities.

The disruption of this linear highway enables the two sides of the infrastructure to merge or expand from their boundaries.

Infrastadium

”Infrastadium” is the reimagining of the classic highway layout through the distortion and total reuse of infrastructure.

Throughout the manipulation of the highway, this project aims to not only serve as a host to public events, but also provide housing and parking for those around the community or driving to downtown Houston.

The project is called “Infrastadium” due to the inspiration of hosting World Cup matches in this space. The challenge was to rethink how this highway can become a world renowned stadium and maintain full usage years after the large event is over.

The 2012 London Olympics and projects like the Shanghai Stadium served as precedents for this project in order to analyze situations in which stadiums became abandoned or actually became fully utilized by the community.
